LONELY ISLANDS

The Norwegian Riviera is surrounded by hundreds of islands. Some are accessible with the bridges, others can only be reached with a boat.  These are small, isolated, almost entirely self-supporting worlds in which time flies at its own pace and the encountered people are usually neither tourists nor permanent residents.

Even on the biggest, located the closest to the continent, islands, only a small percentage of houses have their permanent residents. On smaller and more distant islands, all the hytter cab ne empty - the owners visit them only in summer to enjoy peaceful atmosphere and closeness of nature.

The communities of the islands' permanent residents are formed by very different people. Starting with fishermen's inheritors and ending with eccentric loners or artists. Sometimes there are only three, four houses on one island. It happens that old huts adjoin extremely modern villas. However, on most of the islands, there is still traditional Norwegian atmosphere prevailing. Cosy homesteads, small marinas, narrow paths for pedestrians and bicycles and small sheds on the seashore with fishing equipment and crab traps inside. Thanks to the local respect for tradition, the lonely islands of the Norwegian Riviera are so charming and unique.
